Foodie Find

Who'd have thought I'd find the best brie I'd ever had...at a micro brewery? Me either but, well, here we are. If you want to end the working week on awesome, then head down to the Green Beacon with your work colleagues, order the brie platter and wash it down with some cider. #helloweekend.

Couch Potato

Yesterday afternoon I had the house ALL TO MYSELF!! Josh was at his Dad's and Jansen went fishing. So I wrote a long list of things I needed to do and proceeded to not do a single one.

Instead I sat on the couch in my underwear, online shopped, ate a whole tub of Jalna Sweet and Creamy Greek Yoghurt and watched Asian Pop (which...bizarrely, I quite enjoyed).

Ye-huh. Was definitely the better option.

Late night yum cha

Yesss!! Late night yum cha!! Do you know how awesome this is for me?? We'd been to a going away party at the Carindale Hotel earlier in the afternoon, but were kicked out at 7.00pm because Matt and Jansen were wearing thongs. Classy one guys. So we went and saw Jack Ryan at the movies and by the time that was finished it was 9.30pm and we still hadn't had dinner.

I'd heard about The Manor many times, on FB posts and foodie blogs. I must try this magical place, tucked away in obscure suburbia serving yum cha until 2.00am.

Yes peeps, 2.00am!! Yum cha!!!

And suburbia it was! Eight Miles Plains to be exact, in some random old shopping strip. The reviews were mixed from awesome to crappy service (hello, Chinese restaurant peoples), but I don't care. I ate yum cha after 3.00pm and satisfied my craving for egg tarts :-)).

Mizu - West End

LOVE trying a new restaurant randomly after an indoor rock climb (OK this is the first time) and everyone loving their food.

See my tofu bento box. Deliciousness for $12.

I'm sure all the locals know about it, but get to Mizu in West End!

Ye-hah! Papa Jacks with the girls!

First catch up of the year with the girls and we went to Papa Jacks, one of the new American eateries that are popping up all over BrisVegas.

Typically funky and cool and run by a bunch of hipsters, it was pretty laid back and not too busy for a Thursday night.

I had the house smoked seasonal vegetables with fior de latte (dunno what that is) and pickled corn relish. Check out that roasted garlic - it was AMAZING!

We also had a side of mac and cheese (nom nom nom) and truffled pecorino grits. I'd never heard of grits before, sounded like bird food, but they were delicious!!

I was thinking of all the dinners I've been to with the girls. Will have to put them all under one hashtag.

Happy Anniversary

It was our anniversary. He gave me this. I'm a lucky girl. It's beautiful.

Rock Climbing!

Josh on Level 2

We went indoor rock climbing yesterday! (Pause for amazement). It was awesome fun and a lot harder than it looks. I was the only one who'd never been, so everyone else could scramble up fairly easily on the third and fourth levels. Even Josh, who'd only been once before, made it up fairly quickly, although I think he has the advantage of height. Jansen is a veteran and has all his own gear and he just climbs up like he's walking up a hill...sickening.

That looks high...

For me though, it was a bit more daunting. Mainly because I'm hideously uncoordinated, rather short and I'm not a big fan of heights (though I've been getting much better).

I lingered on level one for most of the time but towards the end conquered a few level twos. It was super fun, totally want to go again. And bonus...I'm not even sore this morning. Win!

Gizmo!

Jansen's dog Gizmo came to stay for a while. He's a super smart dog and a bit cheeky.
But look how cute he is!!

He's been introduced to Bella and while they didn't fight or anything like that, Bella was way more interested and enthusiastic about her new friend. Oh well, when we get our new fence and they're both in the yard together they'll just have to learn to play nice.

Ouchness!

**Alert**

If you're at all squeamish about looking at photos of skin conditions then close this window now and go google pictures of puppies.

Still with us?

Awesome.

OK...so growing I had absolutely no allergies. None. Nada. In fact, I very rarely got sick and only remember the time that I had chicken pox as the only time I was absent from school - for the whole 12 years.

Now, all of a sudden when I'm in my thirties, I've started developing allergies to things I've never been allergic to before.

It started a few years ago while we were still living in Melbourne. I'd sneeze a lot even though I wasn't sick, my nose would run, my eyes would water and the back of my throat would become randomly itchy. I had no idea that they were classic hayfever signs until my Mum mentioned that she had been taking hayfever medication EVERY DAY for the past 20 years for it. Ugh. I don't get it as often now we're in Queensland, but some seasons I will still have to take tablets every day, as much as I hate it.

This, would you believe, is from mango sap. Yep. I was picking mangoes off a tree and my Mum said "make sure you don't get any sap on you." OK Mum, yep, whatever.

Actually, seems Mums know best. She said she remember mangoes pickers up north with welts, but this didn't burn or hurt and in fact I didn't even notice until about four hours later when the welts starting coming up. That was two weeks ago and it's still healing.

We have no idea what this is from but we highly suspect it's a shellfish allergy - crab or shrimp paste the likely culprit, which is going to be darn hard to manage because they put shrimp paste in loads of Thai and Chinese food. Even "vegetarian" food - for some reason they don't think of shrimp as meat. It came up all over my upper arms and a couple of spots on my legs. I don't know if it's hives or what sort of reaction it is, but I do know it's very itchy and after a week hasn't really gone away.

This one is a little harder to see and was taken about a week after I got a teeny green ant bite at a family picnic. I've known for a while that I have an allergy to these pesky little things, but this one was particularly severe and the site of the bite swelled up to three times the size and was red and almost hot to touch. I normally carry some antihistamines on me but of course I didn't have them that day. As soon as I was bitten I could literally feel the poison making it's way through my bloodstream. It's mild really in the schemes, I would hate to be anaphylactic.

Anyway, it all ewwed me out greatly and at the moment I have the remnants of  all three allergies as well as a touch of hayfever. It's not at all pretty especially with all the strappy summer dresses I have.

Boo for allergies.

Kiteboarding!

I'm learning to kiteboard.

For those of you who know me, you can stop laughing now thanks, it's not that funny. For those of you who don't really know me, they think it's funny because I'm absolutely NONE of the following:

- Coordinated
- Sporty
- Outdoorsy

But I'm loving it. I got a "trainer" kite for Christmas so I've been practising just getting my technique on land right first. I've been on the water, not on a board, but attached to a harness on a full size kite and it wasn't great. I managed to slam against a sandbar more than once and swallow copious amounts of saltwater.

I guess that's why I got the trainer kite for Christmas.

Meanwhile I'm TOTALLY loving camping and getting used to what to pack and what to cook. I bought a new tent as well, for Josh, a sweet two man number from Katmandu.

There's nothing like eating breakfast at sunrise on the beach.

Checking out the local wildlife checking me out.

Enjoying the sand...

...and the tranquility...

Although sometimes you need a helping hand.
